Leo Neuegbauer Crowned NCAA Heptathlon Champion

Longhorns finish with two top-20 finishes
BOSTON, Mass. – Leo Neugebauer was crowned the NCAA Indoor heptathlon champion on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday night at the TRACK at New Balance.
The No. 3 women finished 13th with 17 points, while the No. 7 Texas men finished 19th in the team race with 13 team points.
Neugebauer defended his multis NCAA decathlon title by winning the 2024 NCAA Indoor heptathlon with a personal-best and UT record score of 6,347 points. The score ranks as the fourth-best performance in NCAA history, broke the German national record and marks the fourth time in school history a Longhorn has one the event. Donavan Kilmartin won the title three times (2004, 2006, 2007).
The now eight-time First Team All-American entered the day in first place after a personal-best day one competition of 3,664 points. He began the day running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.25 seconds to add 920 points. Neugebauer followed up clearing two personal-best heights in the pole vault at 5.06m and 5.16m to extend his lead heading into the 1,000-meter run. Finishing the final event in 2:46.42, Neugebauer secured his second-straight NCAA title.
Neugebauer now owns the top-three scores in Texas history in the heptathlon and four of the top-five and scored 10 team points.
Brian Herron later finished seventh in the men's 400-meter final with his time of 46.01, the 13th-fastest time in Texas history to score two team points. Kelsey Daniel finished eighth in the men's triple jump with a jump of 16.00m (52-6) for one team point.
On the women's side, the Longhorns were led by freshman Nina Ndubuisi who finished fourth in her first-ever NCAA championships in the shot put after just off her personal best throw at 18.07m (59-3.50). The freshman closed out the season with three of the top five throws in UT history. Junior Chrystal Herpin finished eighth in her first NCAA Indoor Championships with her throw of 17.09m (56-1) to give Texas six team points. The duo earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors for their performances.
Senior Marilyn Nwora finished 10th with her throw of 16.64m (54-7.25) for Second Team All-America honors.
The women of Lauren Lewis, Ziyah Holman, Dejanea Oakley and Kenondra Davis recorded a season-best time in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:28.91 to finish fifth. The time ranks as the 11th-fastest time in UT history and the quartet of women finish with First Team All-America honors.
