Scottie Scheffler wins the Masters

The current No. 1 player in the world claims his second Green Jacket in the last three years.
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler fired a final-round 4-under-par 68 to post a four-stroke victory at the Masters Tournament on Sunday afternoon at historic Augusta National Golf Club. Scheffler recorded his second win at the Masters in the last three years, as he also claimed the Green Jacket in 2022.
Former University of Texas men's golfers have now recorded a total of 10 major championship victories, including a combined five Masters wins by three different players. Scheffler is the sixth former Longhorn to win a Major championship. He is joined in that prestigious group by Ben Crenshaw (1984 and 1995 the Masters), Tom Kite (1992 U.S. Open), Mark Brooks (1996 PGA Championship), Justin Leonard (1997 the Open) and Jordan Spieth (2015 the Masters, 2015 U.S. Open and 2017 the Open).
Scheffler, who earned his ninth career PGA TOUR victory, is the 18th player to win the Masters Tournament multiple times and the fourth-youngest to accomplish the feat, behind only Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Seve Ballesteros. Scheffler is the first player in history to win the Masters by three or more strokes twice in a three-year span, as he claimed a three-shot victory in 2022.
The No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), Scheffler is just the second player to win multiple majors as the top-ranked player in the OWGR, joining Tiger Woods who won 11 major titles as the No. 1-ranked player. Scheffler is just the second player to win The Players Championship and the Masters Tournament in the same season, joining Tiger Woods in 2001. In addition, this marked Scheffler's fifth career start at the Masters and he recorded his second title in the fewest career starts by any player since 1936, when Horton Smith won two of the first three Masters tournaments that were contested.
Scheffler began the day with a one-stroke lead at 7-under. After dropping into a four-way tie at 6-under following a bogey on the 7th hole, Scheffler made three consecutive birdies at holes 8, 9 and 10 to move to 9-under and take a two-stroke lead. He dropped a shot with a bogey on hole 11, but sealed his victory with birdies on holes 13, 14 and 16.
