Men's Swimming's Foster wins bronze in 400 IM at Paris Olympics

Corbeau finishes eighth in 100 breast final, and Hobson advances to Monday’s 200 free final.
PARIS, France — Former University of Texas star Carson Foster earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter individual medley final on Sunday evening at the Paris Olympic Games inside the Paris La Defense Arena. In addition, former Longhorn Caspar Corbeau of Netherlands finished in eighth place in the 100-meter breaststroke final and rising senior Luke Hobson qualified for the final of the 200-meter freestyle.
In Sunday night's 400 IM final, Foster posted a time of 4:08.66 to finish third. Leon Marchand of France, who currently trains under Texas head coach Bob Bowman, claimed the gold medal with an Olympic-record mark of 4:02.95, while Japan's Tomoyuki Matsushita edged out Foster by 0.04 seconds for silver with a time of 4:08.62.
Corbeau recorded an eighth-place result in a tightly-contested 100 breast final with a mark of 59.98. Nicolo Martinenghi of Italy won gold with a time of 59.03, while Nic Fink (USA) and Adam Peaty (Great Britain) tied for second with a mark of 59.05 to each claim silver medals.
During Sunday evening's 200-meter freestyle semifinals, Hobson recorded the third-fastest time (1:45.19) to advance to Monday night's final. David Popovici of Romania posted the fastest time of the semifinals with a mark of 1:44.53. Rising junior Hubert Kos, who transferred to Texas earlier this spring, finished 10th in the 100-meter backstroke semifinals with a time of 52.98.
In Sunday morning's prelims, Hobson advanced to the 200-meter freestyle semifinals as he tied for the seventh-fastest time of the heats with a mark of 1:46.23. Foster registered the fourth-fastest time in the 400-meter individual medley prelims with a mark of 4:11.07 to qualify for the final. Kos then posted the fastest time of the heats in the 100-meter backstroke with a mark of 52.78, breaking the Hungarian national record in the process.
