Men's Swimming's Hobson, Foster and Kibler lead USA to silver in 4x200 free relay at Paris Olympics

Longhorn trio swims the first three legs for Team USA in Tuesday night’s final.
PARIS, France — Rising University of Texas senior Luke Hobson and former Longhorns Carson Foster and Drew Kibler claimed silver medals for Team USA in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay final on Tuesday evening at the Paris Olympic Games inside Paris La Defense Arena. In addition, former Longhorn Caspar Corbeau of Netherlands advanced to the final of the 200-meter breaststroke.
Texas Men's Swimming increased its medal count to five at the Paris Games, as Hobson (200 free) and Foster (400 IM) had previously earned bronze medals.
During Tuesday night's 4x200 free relay final, the trio of Hobson, Foster and Kibler swam the opening three legs for Team USA as the American squad posted a time of 7:00.78 to finish in second place. Great Britain earned the gold medal with a mark of 6:59.34, while Australia claimed bronze in a time of 7:01.98.
Hobson, who won bronze in the 200-meter freestyle on Monday night, led off the American relay with a split of 1:45.55. Foster, who won bronze in the 400-meter individual medley on Sunday, posted a split of 1:45.31 on the second leg. Kibler then followed on the third leg with a split of 1:45.12, before Kieran Smith brought home the silver with a split of 1:44.80 on the anchor leg.
In Tuesday evening's 200-meter breaststroke semifinals, Corbeau recorded the fourth-fastest time (2:09.52) to advance to Wednesday night's final. France's Leon Marchand, who trains with Texas head coach Bob Bowman, posted the fastest time of the semifinals with a mark of 2:08.11.
During Tuesday morning's prelims, Corbeau advanced to the 200-meter breaststroke semifinals as he posted the fourth-fastest time of the heats with a mark of 2:09.78. Kibler swam the opening leg for Team USA in the 4x200 free relay heats and led his quartet to the second-fastest time of the heats with a mark of 7:05.57, just 0.46 seconds behind top-seed Great Britain at 7:05.11. Kibler posted a split of 1:46.43 during his opening leg of the prelims.
