Texas soccer set to be featured on SEC Network for first of three times during 2024 season
AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time during the 2024 season, The University of Texas women's soccer program will have a regular season match broadcast on SEC Network when the 12th-ranked Longhorns return to Mike A. Myers Stadium to host No. 24 Iowa at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Following Sunday's match, a UT women's soccer match will also be broadcast on SEC Network on Thursday, Sept. 26 (at Ole Miss) and Thursday, Oct. 10 (vs. Oklahoma) to round out a SEC-high three appearances on the linear channel.
TELEVISION: Michael Watts (play by play) and Marion Crowder (analyst) will serve as the television talent for the broadcast set to air on the SEC Network.
KICKING OFF
- Not only will it be the first-ever matchup between Texas and Iowa on the soccer pitch, but it just the fourth match between the Longhorns and a Big 10 opponent since Angela Kelly took over at the helm of the UT program prior to the 2012 season.
- Nov. 17, 2022, vs. #12 Wisconsin (W, 2-1)
- The match was a second-round contest in the NCAA Tournament and occurred in Tallahassee, Fla., where No. 1 Florida State hosted four teams for the second and third rounds.
- Sept. 9, 2016, at #19 Ohio State (L, 1-2, OT)
- Aug. 30, 2015, vs. #18 Ohio State (T, 0-0, 2OT)
- Nov. 17, 2022, vs. #12 Wisconsin (W, 2-1)
- Following the recent realignment around collegiate athletics, Texas will enter Sunday's match with a 21-21-4 all-time record against current Big 10 women's programs.
- When Sunday's contest kicks off, Iowa will become the 14th different Big 10 women's soccer program that the Longhorns will have played at least one match against.
- As a result of her first career haul at SMU on Thursday, Aug. 22, Texas senior forward Trinity Byars will enter Sunday's match as the NCAA's active leader in career goals with 52.
- However, Baylor's Ashley Merrill, who held that title with 50 prior to the Longhorns' match against the Mustangs, will take the pitch before UT does against the Hawkeyes as the Bears face off against Portland at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, Aug. 24.
- Lexi Missimo is third on the list with 46, while Iowa's Maya Hansen is tied for fourth with 44.
- With four more assists, Trinity Byars will become just the 47th player in NCAA Division I women's soccer history with 40 goals and 40 assists throughout a career.
- Lexi Missimo was the latest student-athlete to achieve the feat during her 26-goal, 20-assist junior campaign in 2023.
- Following her pair of assists during Texas' match at SMU on Thursday, Aug. 22, Lexi Missimo will enter Sunday's matchup against Iowa tied for 25th on the NCAA Division I women's soccer career assist list.
- Missimo is currently tied with Jame Madison's Teresa Rynier (2007-10), Notre Dame's Jen Grubb (1996-99) and North Carolina's Cindy Parlow (1995-98).
- Rynier (90), Grubb (100) and Parlow (103) all finished with 53 career assists after playing 90-or-more career matches, while Sunday will mark Missimo's 70th career collegiate soccer match.
- Missimo is currently tied with Jame Madison's Teresa Rynier (2007-10), Notre Dame's Jen Grubb (1996-99) and North Carolina's Cindy Parlow (1995-98).
