Texas set to host third first-ever opponent in season’s first five matches
AUSTIN, Texas – Not only will the Texas women's soccer program welcome a new month on Sunday, but the Longhorns will also square off against a new opponent for the first time ever when Central Michigan visits the Forty Acres on Sunday, Sept. 1 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
TELEVISION: Sunday afternoon's match between Texas and Central Michigan can be viewed on SEC Network+ with Lincoln Rose calling the action from Mike A. Myers Stadium.
KICKING OFF
- Central Michigan will become just the fourth different opponent from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) that the Texas women's soccer program has played a match against.
- The Chippewas will be the first MAC opponent for the Longhorns since playing in Oxford, Ohio against Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 11, 2016.
- UT went on to knock off the Redhawks, 2-0, that day.

- Since taking over at the helm of the Longhorns prior to the 2012 season, head coach Angela Kelly is 15-10-4 all time in matches following a tie.
- The record includes an active streak of four consecutive wins with the last non-win following a tie occurring on Sept. 22, 2022, when the then-No. 25 Longhorns tied, 1-1, at then-No. 12 TCU.
- A Kelly-led squad has not lost a match following a tie since Sept. 9, 2021, when the Longhorns dropped a match to Oregon, 1-0, in Austin.
- The record includes an active streak of four consecutive wins with the last non-win following a tie occurring on Sept. 22, 2022, when the then-No. 25 Longhorns tied, 1-1, at then-No. 12 TCU.
- Through just four matches of the 2024 season, the Texas offense already has five different goal scorers, which is 41.7 percent of last season's total of 13.
- Central Michigan is set to become the fourth different opponent from the state of Michigan to play Texas.
- Detroit is the last team from the state to face off against the Longhorns when the Titans traveled to Austin to play UT on Aug. 28, 2016, when Texas won 3-1.
- Texas has also played Michigan and Michigan State throughout its program history with the last meeting against the Wolverines and Spartans coming on Sept. 2, 2005 and Sept. 4, 2005, respectively, when the Longhorns traveled up to the Great Lakes State to play in Ann Arbor and East Lansing.
- Despite playing to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes on the pitch against Iowa on Sunday, Aug. 25, Texas senior forward Trinity Byars still remains the nation's leader in total goals (5) and total points (13) heading into the weekend's action.
- Additionally, Texas senior goalkeeper Mia Justus is tied atop the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in shutouts with three following a clean sheet against the then-No. 24 Iowa Hawkeyes last weekend.
- Sunday's match against Central Michigan will mark the second of a six-match stretch for the Longhorns at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
- It marks the second consecutive season Texas has played at least six-or-more home matches in row after playing seven during the early portion of the 2023 campaign.
- UT also had stretches of six-or-more matches at Mike A. Myers Stadium in a row throughout the 2018 (7) and 2017 (6) under head coach Angela Kelly.
