No. 8 Men’s Golf places third at Folds of Honor Collegiate

Morrison cards a 6-under 65 on Wednesday to earn a career-best runner-up individual finish.
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The No. 8 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 2-under-par 282 on Wednesday to finish in third place in the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club. Junior Tommy Morrison fired a 6-under 65 in his final round and earned a career-best runner-up showing in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 8-under 205 (70-70-65).
In addition to Morrison's outstanding round, Texas counted scores from junior Christiaan Maas (2-under 69), junior Luke Potter (2-over 73) and sophomore Ben DeLaRosa (4-over 75) on Wednesday.
No. 16 Alabama claimed the team title with a 54-hole score of 12-under 840 (275-288-277). No. 9 Illinois placed second at 5-under 847 (286-278-283), while the Longhorns took third at 3-over 855 (287-286-282). The 15-team field featured six squads in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll.
Dominic Clemons of Alabama earned individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 9-under 204 (69-66-69). Morrison finished just one stroke off the lead at 8-under 205 (70-70-65) and recorded his collegiate-best individual showing, topping his previous best finish of a tie for fourth at last spring's Western Intercollegiate (April 15-17, 2024). Jackson Buchanan of Illinois took third at 7-under 206 (70-70-66). Maas also had a solid individual showing as he placed sixth at 4-under 209 (70-70-69). Morrison and Maas were two of the eight individuals in the 75-player field who recorded an under-par 54-hole total at the tournament.
Texas returns to the course when it competes at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sept. 20-22 (Friday-Sunday) in Olympia Fields, Ill.
The Lineup
- Junior Tommy Morrison carded a 6-under 65 in his final round to earn a runner-up individual finish with a 54-hole score of 8-under 205 (70-70-65). This marked his career-best collegiate finish, as he previously tied for fourth at last year's Western Intercollegiate (April 15-17, 2024). Morrison posted a clean sheet on Wednesday with six birdies (holes 3, 6, 8, 12, 13 and 17) and 12 pars.
- Junior Christiaan Maas registered a 2-under 69 on Wednesday and placed sixth in the individual standings with a three-round total of 4-under 209 (70-70-69). Maas recorded four birdies (holes 1, 9, 12 and 14) against a pair of bogeys during his final round.
- Junior Luke Potter fired a 2-over 73 in his final round to tie for 34th with a 54-hole score of 9-over 222 (76-73-73). Potter tallied four birdies (holes 5, 12, 14 and 17) on Wednesday.
- Sophomore Jack Gilbert carded a 6-over 77 on Wednesday and tied for 30th with a three-round total of 8-over 221 (71-73-77).
- Sophomore Ben DeLaRosa recorded a 4-over 75 in his final round and tied for 55th with a 54-hole score of 17-over 230 (79-76-75). He registered three birdies (holes 3, 6 and 14) on Wednesday.
