No. 6 Volleyball bounces back with sweep of Houston

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 6 Texas Volleyball bounced back with a sweep of Houston, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20, on Wednesday night in front of another sold-out crowd at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (3-2) hit a season-high .370 in the match, while three players finished with double-digit kills.
Madisen Skinner led the team with 13 kills and added seven digs and three blocks, while hitting .300. Reagan Rutherford had a great match with 12 kills, hitting .579, while adding four blocks. Jenna Wenaas had 11 kills, with five digs and thre service aces.
Ayden Ames finished with six kills and three blocks, while Marianna Singletary had three kills and a team-high seven blocks.
Ella Swindle dished out 37 assists, while also finishing with eight digs, three kills and two blocks. Emma Halter had a team-high 11 digs and finished with five assists and three aces.
The Longhorns hit .500 in the opening set and rolled to a 25-19 win, led by six kills from Wenaas and five kills from Rutherford. Texas jumped out to a 9-3 lead early before Houston cut into that lead with a 4-0 run. The Longhorns responded well to that run with a 4-0 run of their own.
Texas served tough in the second set with five aces to pick up a 25-18 win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Rutherford continued her hot start to the match and added four more kills on an efficient four total attacks.
Houston started well in the third set and got out to an early 5-3 then held a 14-12 lead. Texas battled back to knot the set up at 18-all and then rattled off four-straight points to put the match out of reach.
Texas will head on the road for its first true away match, against Stanford on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
