No. 8 Volleyball beats Hawaii on Friday

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 8 Texas Volleyball finished its non-conference schedule with a 3-1 win over Hawaii, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, on Friday at Gregory Gymnasium.
The Longhorns (5-3) played in front of the 32nd-consecutive sold-out crowd at Gregory Gym with 4,531 in attendance.
Jenna Wenaas led the Longhorns with 15 kills, while hitting .448, and adding six digs and one service ace. Hawaii native Devin Kahahawai had a career night with 12 kills and a .476 hitting percentage.
The Longhorns rolled to a 25-14 win in the first set, firing on all cylinders from start to finish.
Texas trailed most of the second set and was down 25-20 before going on an impressive 7-0 run to grab the lead. But Hawaii battled right back to retake the lead and win the second set 25-23. The Longhorns were held to a .200 hitting percentage in the set after hitting .611 in the opening set.
The Longhorns got back on track in the third set with a 25-17 win, while hitting .417. Texas jumped out to a big 8-1 lead and withstood a run by Hawaii to retake the lead in the match.
Texas carried that momentum into the fourth set and finished off the victory with a 25-19 win. The Longhorns hit .500 in the set to cap off the win.
Texas will now head into SEC play next week, starting off against Texas A&M on Friday in College Station at 6:30 p.m.
