Men's Golf's Maas, Morrison named to Fred Haskins Award Fall Watch List

Juniors Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison are two of 25 players named to preseason list for nation’s top collegiate men’s golfer.
COLUMBUS, Ga. — University of Texas Men's Golf juniors Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison have been named to the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel Fall Watch List, the Haskins Foundation announced Wednesday morning. Maas and Morrison are two of 25 players named to the preseason list for the annual award which honors the top men's collegiate golfer.
Maas earned Division I PING third-team All-America and Golfweek third-team All-America honors along with PING All-Central Region team accolades in his sophomore season in 2024. He also claimed a spot on the 10-person All-Big 12 Team and was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection. Maas competed in 13 of UT's 14 events last season and led the team in scoring average (71.09) while posting four top-10 and seven top-20 individual finishes on the year. He registered his first collegiate career individual victory at the 2024 NCAA Austin Regional with a 9-under 204 (71-67-66) and tied for 11th place at the NCAA Championships with a 72-hole score of even-par 288 (74-71-70-73), claiming a spot on the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.
Morrison earned PING All-Central Region team accolades and was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore in 2024. He competed in each of UT's 14 events on the year and ranked third in scoring average (71.73). Morrison placed seventh at the NCAA Austin Regional with a 4-under 209 (67-69-73). He also recorded a collegiate career-best tie for fourth at the Western Intercollegiate. This summer, Morrison claimed the 2024 European Amateur Championship in a three-way playoff at The Scandinavian in Oldvej, Denmark. He became the first American player to in the prestigious title since the tourney began in 1986 and joined an elite list of champions that includes Sergio Garcia (1995) and Rory McIlroy (2006) along with former Longhorn Christoffer Bring of Denmark in 2021. By virtue of his win at the European Amateur, Morrison earned a spot in the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon. He earned the Bronze Medal at The Open Championship (July 18-21), as he tied for second among the 12 amateurs in the 152-player field.
Celebrating its 55th year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournament titles around the world. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's and select golf media. Golf Channel and Golfweek are media partners for the Fred Haskins Award.
