Texas moves to 5-0-1 in six matches at home this season
AUSTIN, Texas – There's no place like home for The University of Texas women's soccer program as the Longhorns won their fifth match at Mike A. Myers Stadium this season following Sunday's 3-0 victory against Long Beach State.
In six total matches at home so far this season, the Texas offense has outscored its opponents, 13-1, including six unanswered once Sunday night's action concluded. On the other side of the pitch, the Longhorn defense and goalkeeper Mia Justus have been credited with five clean sheets in matches played on the Forty Acres in 2024.
Dating back to last season's matchup, Texas has scored five unanswered goals against Long Beach State with all five goals coming via a different student-athlete.
During the 2024 edition of the series history between Texas and Long Beach State, it was three first-half goals and a stout Longhorn defense that was the difference. Not only did Ashlyn Miller and Jilly Shimkin find the back of the net for the first time this season, Lexi Missimo became the first student-athlete in program history to reach the 50-goal, 50-assist milestone for her collegiate career with a goal at the 18:41 mark of the first half.
FROM HEAD COACH ANGELA KELLY
"I'm just pleased – first and foremost – because it's three points, three goals and 17 shots with five on them on goal. If you hit the face five times and score on three of those five, that's a nearly 75-to-80 scoring percentage and that's pretty good. We are really excited about that efficiency. Obviously, you have to give credit to Long Beach State, too. They pressed in different ways and that allowed us to practice getting out of different tight spaces; definitely want to continue getting continuity and a great rhythm of play."
