No. 2 Women’s Swimming and Diving’s Hernandez, Cox receive SEC weekly honors

The duo earned weekly honors from the SEC office following their performances at the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Women's Swimming and Diving's Hailey Hernandez and Jillian Cox earned weekly honors from the SEC, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. Hernandez was named SEC Diver of the Week while Cox was selected as the conference's Freshman Athlete of the Week.
It's Cox's fourth conference weekly honor this season and Hernandez's first, respectively.
The duo guided Texas to two dual meet victories against top-25 teams on Jan. 24-25 at the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown. The Longhorns secured wins against No. 8 North Carolina State (237-115) and No. 17 Arizona State (258-94).
Hernandez, a senior, helped Texas sweep the diving events over the weekend after finishing first in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter while earning 376 total points. The Southlake, Texas, product took first in the 1-meter with 344.95 points while scoring a season-high 333.30 points in the 3-meter to place second.
Cox secured the victory in the 500 freestyle with an NCAA A-cut time of 4:31.97 for the second-fastest time in Texas history and the fourth-fastest time this season. She also touched the wall first in the 1650 free with an NCAA A-cut time of 15:41.49, the third-fastest time this season and the second-best time in program history. Cox finished the consolation final of the 200 free with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:45.02.
Up next, Texas welcomes No. 17 Texas A&M to Austin at 3 p.m. CT Friday, Jan. 31. It'll also double as Senior Day for the Longhorns. Texas will then host the Sterkel Classic at 11 a.m. on Feb. 1 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
