Vander Wal leads No. 2 Volleyball past Ole Miss with career-high 21 kills

AUSTIN, Texas. — No. 2 Texas Volleyball remained undefeated with its 3-1 win over Ole Miss (35-33, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18). Texas limited the Rebels offense to a .188 hitting percentage, lower than their season average of .215. Three Longhorns recorded at least 15 kills in the win.
Freshman Abby Vander Wal led the team scoring with career-high 21 kills along with four digs. Fellow freshman Cari Spears surpassed 200 career kills in the match with 16 kills and nine digs. Junior Torrey Stafford recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs.
Set One: The Longhorns took longest set they played this season with a 35-33 win. This set also tied as the fifth longest set played in NCAA this season. Vander Wal led the charge with nine kills and two digs. Swindle totaled 13 assists while Halter recorded seven digs in the set. Stafford recorded her 600th career digs in the set with three digs and five kills.
Set Two: Texas tallied a 9-1 scoring run to take set two of the match. Spears led the team with five kills, while Swindle totaled ten assists. The Longhorns limited the Rebels at a 0.048 hitting percentage in the second set.
Set Three: The Longhorns dropped the third set of the match 25-21 after Ole Miss ended on a six-point scoring run. Swindle recorded nine assists while the Texas offense totaled 13 kills in set three.
Set Four: Texas took the final set of the match after hitting .471 - a set high. Stafford led the charge with eight kills, while Swindle recorded nine assists and three digs. The Longhorns limited Ole Miss offense at only nine kills and a .167 hitting percentage.
Texas will continue its road trip to Baton Rouge to face off against LSU on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
