Important news happening in and around Texas Athletics compiled by Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte

Longhorn Nation,
ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER — and boy are we fond of our Longhorns! FORTY-TWO days, folks (matching the longest stretch away from home in school history) — that was way too long. But, holy cow, was the payoff worth it! What a treat it was to be back home. A perfect morning of pregame festivities set the stage for a thrilling 34-31 victory over No. 9 Vanderbilt, a team that came in hotter than fish grease and one of the most talked-about squads in the country. But they were talkin' TEXAS afterward as our aggressive defense, explosive offense, and steady special teams stole the show on a bright and early morning after Halloween night. 102,000-strong packed the house and brought the juice. The atmosphere was electric, and that home-field advantage keeps ramping up — we're now 17-1 at home over the last three seasons. Y'all are incredible and we couldn't have done it without you, Longhorn Nation! While the locker room was rockin' to Texas Fight after the game, I saw y'all out there at LCL jammin' to the Beach Boys in euphoric celebration — we're Surfin' U.S.A. my friends!

Now Coach Sark and our FOOTBALL TEAM WILL GET SOME MUCH-NEEDED R&R during the bye week before heading back on the road to take on No. 5 Georgia on Nov. 15 (6:30 p.m. CT/ABC). That'll be a huge one, but there's no need to fear — there's still plenty of Longhorn action to keep those Horns up in the meantime! Coach Schaeffer's Women's Basketball got things rolling with a convincing win over Incarnate Word on Monday at Moody Center and will host Richmond on Friday (7 p.m. CT/SEC Network+). Coach Miller's Men's Basketball team tips off the season TONIGHT in Charlotte with some must-see TV against No. 6/5 Duke (7:45 p.m. CT/ESPN) before returning to the ATX for the home opener vs. Lafayette on Saturday (2 p.m. CT/SEC Network+). You can tune into the Road to Game Day show featuring Men's Basketball to get amped up for tonight's tilt! Men's and Women's Tennis and Beach Volleyball will also be competing in more tournament action. We'll see you on the Forty and count down the 18 days until football returns to DKR! Keep those Horns Up — and as always, Hook 'Em!

Volleyball was on a heater for 18 wins in 18 matches but is going through a rough patch with a couple of tough losses against top-10 opponents last week. We know they're loaded with Texas Fight and will get up, dust themselves off and bounce back. They'll be doing that on the road as Coach Elliott and our squad take their 18-2 record (10-2 in SEC) to Gainesville to face another top-25 squad in Florida on Friday (6 p.m. CT/SEC Network). Folks, we can't thank you enough for pouring into this team with another full house Sunday — the 50th-straight sellout at Gregory Gym. It was en fuego in there! Our Horns will be back home in a couple weeks for the regular season finale against South Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 16 (1 p.m. CT/SEC Network+). Can't wait to see you there!
Oh, and hey, how about the National Champions in the house on Saturday?! One of the most impressive runs and epic National Championship games ever — what a joy it was honoring our 2005 Football National Champions during the Vanderbilt game. Here's to another round of applause for Coach Brown and that phenomenal squad that will forever be etched in Longhorn Lore!

And in closing, I know you've heard the very sad news — we lost a great Longhorn and one of our most beloved superfans with the passing of Scott Wilson on Friday. We were deeply saddened by his loss, but the legacy of a man who attended 594-straight football games, 1,564-consecutive in baseball — every single one since 1977 — will never be forgotten. Scott truly embodied the pride and passion of the Texas Longhorns. He was one of one — a fan like no other — and he will be dearly missed. On behalf of Texas Athletics, we extend our most sincere condolences, sympathy and thoughts and prayers to Scott's family, friends and the entire Longhorn community that loved him so much. Rest in peace my friend.
there will only ever be one Scott Wilson 🤘 pic.twitter.com/MzeZiPKeSZ

Football comes out firing on all cylinders in top-10 win
Folks, it felt appropriate that on a day we were squaring off on the field with the top-10 Commodores that Coach Sark and our Horns came out "Too hot to trot" (that hit song from the other "Commodores"). Right from the jump, as the kids like to say, all cylinders were firing! From Arch connecting with Wingo for 75 yards on the very first play to Colin Simmons almost immediately giving them the ball back with a heck of forced fumble and recovery it provided that energy and fast start the team talked all week about having! It was some serious complimentary football, and although there were some road bumps in the fourth quarter, all in all, it was an outstanding performance in getting the 34-31 win over the No. 9 team in the country! Arch was doing his thing with a second-straight 300-yard/three-TD passing performance (first time we've had that since 2018) to be named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, once again a Manning Award Star of the Week (don't you just love that?) and Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 winner, and boy oh boy, was he spreading the love. Get this, 10 different players were on the receiving end of those passes, and EIGHT of them had at least two! Emmett Mosley led the way, hauling in seven with a touchdown (and wow, did Arch stand in there and take a pop on that one). Then "call me Quintrevion" flipped his way into the end zone on the ground and combined with C4 (who also caught a TD) to get us to the century mark in rushing. On the defensive side, those guys really packed a sack lunch in racking up SIX, which is twice as many as Diego Pavia's ever had in his career and really saying something for the great caliber of player he is. That helped Colin Simmons become the SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks, and it's the fourth straight time one of our guys has gotten that award with Ethan Burke earning it the other week. Speaking of Ethan, he was once again a monster out there with two of those sacks and three tackles for loss. And while everyone loves a great sack, it also shouldn't go unnoticed that our defensive squad also got seven pressures from five different players on top of those sacks! It was a team effort all around that deserves to be celebrated, and now we've got a chance to catch our breath and get some of those injuries healed up in time for the stretch run!
