Men’s Tennis’ Braswell advances to second round of ITA Central Sectionals

Senior Jonah Braswell won his opening-round singles match in Ann Arbor on Thursday.
Ann Arbor, Mich. – Texas Men's Tennis senior No. 37 Jonah Braswell advanced to the second round of singles at the ITA Central Sectional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Thursday.
Braswell defeated Bruno Nhavene of Oklahoma, 6-4, 6-4, to move on where he will face 3 seed No. 67 Jack Anthrop of Ohio State on Friday.
Freshman Lucas Marionneau also played singles, but fell to 5 seed No. 101 Alexandru Chirita of Baylor, 6-1, 6-4. Marionneau later was downed in a consolation match to No. 30 Alexander Bernard of Ohio State, 6-4, 6-2.
Braswell and sophomore Evan Burnett then played doubles but dropped their match to 2 seed No. 49 Max Dahlin and Bjorn Swenson of Michigan, 6-2, 6-3. They will play a consolation match against Jestin Calum and Connor Doig of Tulsa on Friday.
The event represents a chance for players to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships. A total of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams will be in the field. From the tournament, six singles players (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners) and three doubles teams (finalists, third place) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
The Central section encompasses the ITA Central, Midwest and Texas regions.
