Duo led Longhorns to Shriners Children’s College Showdown title
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas left-handed pitcher Luke Harrison and infielder Adrian Rodriguez both collected Southeastern Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Harrison was tabbed the SEC Pitcher of the Week, while Rodriguez was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. This marks both players' first career weekly league distinction.
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound redshirt junior, Harrison blanked Ole Miss to guide the Longhorns to a Shriners Children's College Showdown crown.
Harrison retired 16 of the first 19 batters he faced, recording a career-long 6.1 innings and a career-best six strikeouts.
The Friendswood, Texas native surrendered only two hits and one walk to earn the victory in his third career start.
A 6-foot-2, 210-pound freshman, Rodriguez helped the Longhorns offense explode for 27 runs during their tournament-title run.
Rodriguez slashed .429/.467/1.071 with two home runs and three RBI across the three-game classic.
The Flower Mound, Texas native closed out the weekend with a four-hit effort, highlighted by a pair of doubles and a home run against then-No. 17 Oklahoma State.
No. 17 Texas opens its home slate on Tuesday, as the Longhorns welcome Houston to UFCU Disch-Falk Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
