Longhorns sweep first four opponents of 2025 season

HOUSTON, Texas – No. 15 Texas Beach Volleyball concluded the Third Coast College Classic adding three wins against Sam Houston, UTEP, and Houston Christian.

Texas opened the day with a 5-0 sweep against Sam Houston followed by another 5-0 sweep against UTEP, and ended the day with a 4-1 win against HCU.

Texas scored its first point against Sam Houston from the No. 4 pair of Ava Patton and Kylie Wickley, only allowing nine total points for its opponent in two sets, 21-5, 21-4. The No. 5 pair (Hannah Ogden/Presley Wright) added another two-set win, 21-13, 21-8 followed by a 21-8, 21-11 win from the No. 1 pair (Emma Grace Robertson/Katie Hashman). Texas completed its sweep with back-to-back two set wins from the No. 2 (Chloe Charles/Eva Liisa Kuivonen), 21-9, 21-8 and No. 3 (Karin Zolnercikova/Maddison Parmelly) pairs, 21-6, 21-7, limiting its opponents to single digit scores.

Texas began its second dual of the day against UTEP with a two-set win from the No. 5 pair (Carys Patton/Vivian Johnson), 21-8, 21-9. The No. 4 pair of Macey Butler and Noa Sonneville added the second point for Texas, 21-19, 21-16. The No. 3 pair (Patton and Wickley) added another win for Texas, 21-15, 21-11 followed by a 21-16, 21-14 win from the No. 1 pair (Robertson and Hashman). To solidify the sweep, the No. 2 pair of Zolnercikova and Parmelly completed the dual with a 21-14, 21-18 win.

In its final dual of the weekend, Texas took a 2-0 lead over HCU with a 21-15, 21-9 win from the No. 5 pair (Butler/Sonneville) and a 21-18, 21-13 win from the No. 4 pair (Patton/Wickley). After going into extra points in the first set, the No. 3 pair (Zolnercikova/Parmelly) came out with another two-set win, 27-21, 21-16. The No. 2 pair of Charles and Kuivonen added the fourth point for Texas, 21-18, 21-17. For the first time this weekend, Texas entered a third set and the No. 1 pair of Robertson and Hashman fell, 21-17, 17-21, 10-15.

Patton and Wickley finished the weekend, 5-0 with two wins at the No. 3 position and three at the No. 4 position.

Up next, the Longhorns make its home debut hosting Coastal Carolina, Tulane, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at the Longhorn Invitational on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1 at the Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex.
