Jess breaks 5K program record on first night of SEC Indoor Championships

Women sit in sixth, men tied for ninth after four scored events.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Eva Jess of the Texas track and field program shattered her own 5,000-meter program record on the first day of the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Longhorn women scored 10 points, while the men scored four.
Jess took five seconds off her previous program record in the 5K and finished with a time of 15:39.51 to finish fourth overall. Jess's fourth-place finish scored five team points. Elizabeth Pickett finished ninth with a time of 16:18.96, Sydni Wilkins was 11th in 16:25.27 and Brighton Mooney was 22nd in 17:13.25.
In the men's 5k, Isaac Alonzo was 14th (14:02.13) and Nathanael Berhane (14:07.19) was 17th.
Aaliyah Foster scored four points in the women's long jump jumping 6.46m (21-2.50). It matched her second-best jump of the season. On the men's side, Solomon Washington finished sixth with a mark of 7.63m (25-0.50) and Kelsey Daniel was eighth (7.51m / 24-7.75). Combined, the men scored four points.
The women's distance medley relay saw Kyra Pretre, Lauren Lewis, Mackenize Browne and Elizabeth Stockman finish eighth with a season best time of 11:20.63. The relay gave the Longhorns one team point. The men finished just off of scoring after finishing ninth when Logan Patete, Almond Small, Daniel Howells and EJ Rush finished ninth in 9:43.10.
Freshman Meagan Humphries finished 11th in the pentathlon after scoring 3,875 points. Humphries finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.83 seconds, cleared 1.60m (5-3), threw for 10.13m, jumped a personal best 5.93m (19-5.50) in long jump and added a one-second personal best in the 800m (2:19.74) at her first conference meet.
Sophomore Brock Lewis finished the first day of the heptathlon in 10th after scoring 2,857 points. He ended the afternoon on a high after posting a personal best in the high jump after clearing 1.90m (6-2.75). After four events, Lewis sits 430 points back of first.
Kenondra Davis was the lone Longhorn to advance to the women's 200-meter final on Saturday after matching her season best time of 23.19.
After the first day of competition, the women are in sixth with 10 points and the men are tied for ninth with four points.
