Baseball’s Belyeu, Flores earn spots on preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list

Prestigious watch list features 55 of the nation’s best amateur players
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas junior standouts Max Belyeu and Jalin Flores were named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list, USA Baseball announced Friday afternoon, beginning the process of identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country for the 2025 season.
The preseason watch list features 55 of the nation's best amateur players form high school and college baseball. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season.

Following the 2024 season, Belyeu was tabbed the Big 12 Player of the Year, emerging as one of the top hitters in the country.
As a sophomore, Belyeu slashed .329/.423/.667 with 18 home runs and 53 RBI.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound outfielder paced the Longhorns in slugging and OPS, while matching Flores in homers.
A consensus All-American a year ago, Flores cemented himself as one of the best offensive shortstops nationally.
Flores tallied a team-high 22 doubles and 56 RBI, while being tied for the club lead in home runs and total bases (158).
The San Antonio, Texas native posted a .340 average and a 1.064 OPS, guiding Texas to its 63rd NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Longhorns open the season on Feb. 14 against Louisville in Arlington, Texas, as part of the Shriners Children's College Showdown. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Globe Life Field.
