No. 4 Men's Golf's Bennett, Morrison named to Fred Haskins Award First Spring Watch List

Freshman Daniel Bennett and junior Tommy Morrison are two of 20 players named to watch list for nation’s top collegiate men’s golfer.
COLUMBUS, Ga. — University of Texas Men's Golf freshman Daniel Bennett and junior Tommy Morrison have been named to the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel first spring watch list, the Haskins Foundation announced Monday morning. Bennett and Morrison are two of 20 players named to the watch list for the annual award which honors the top men's collegiate golfer.
The next Watch List will be released on Monday, April 14 and will be reduced to 15 players. The final 2024-25 Haskins Award Watch List will be released on Friday, May 16 and voting will open for the 10 players that are included on the list. Voting will end on Monday, May 26 at the conclusion of the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championship.
Bennett, currently No. 110 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (Mar. 5) and No. 5 in the latest NCAA individual rankings by Scoreboard (Mar. 5), has registered a team-best 68.67 scoring average over his first three stroke-play appearances this season. He boasts a pair of top-three individual finishes, and seven of his nine rounds have been par or better, including five rounds in the 60s. Bennett finished a collegiate-best tie for second at the Southwestern Invitational (Jan. 27-29) with a 4-under 209 (72-70-67). He also tied for third at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) with a 5-under 205 (65-69-71) in his collegiate debut.
Morrison, currently No. 6 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (Mar. 5) and No. 3 in the latest NCAA individual rankings by Scoreboard (Mar. 5), has registered a 68.80 scoring average over the first five stroke-play appearances this year. He has placed in the top-13 in each of his first five stroke-play appearances this season, and thirteen of his 15 rounds have been par or better, including 10 rounds in the 60s. Morrison claimed his first career collegiate individual victory at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 6-8), carding a 54-hole total of 21-under 195 (67-65-63) to advance to a playoff with Hampton Roberts of North Carolina. On the first playoff hole (18th hole), Roberts made a par before Morrison sank a 15-foot birdie to claim the individual title. Morrison set Texas program records for low 54-hole total score at 195 (previous: 196 by Doug Ghim at the 2018 NCAA Raleigh Regional) and low 54-hole total vs. par at 21-under (previous: 18-under by Beau Hossler at the 2015 Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational). He also posted a runner-up individual finish at the season-opening Folds of Honor Collegiate (Sept. 9-11) with an 8-under 205 (70-70-65), just one stroke behind medalist Dominic Clemons (Alabama).
Morrison claimed the 2024 European Amateur Championship (June 26-29) in a three-way playoff at The Scandinavian in Oldvej, Denmark. He became the first American player to in the prestigious title since the tourney began in 1986 and joined an elite list of champions that includes Sergio Garcia (1995) and Rory McIlroy (2006) along with former Longhorn Christoffer Bring of Denmark in 2021. By virtue of his win at the European Amateur, Morrison earned a spot in the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon. He earned the Bronze Medal at The Open Championship (July 18-21), as he tied for second among the 12 amateurs in the 152-player field.
Celebrating its 55th year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournament titles around the world. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's and select golf media.
