AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas left-handed pitcher Dylan Volantis was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
In two appearances against No. 2 LSU, Volantis earned a pair of saves to help the Longhorns secure their first series victory over a top-2 team in six years.
The 6-foot-6, 212-pound hurler retired 14 of the 15 batters he faced, notching seven strikeouts. Volantis totaled 4 2/3 shutout innings without allowing a hit.
On Saturday, the rookie recorded the final four outs on just 12 pitches to close out Texas' 11-7 victory.
In the series finale, Volantis pitched the final 3 1/3 innings in an efficient 40-pitch effort, while racking up five punchouts to lock down the 6-2 win on Sunday.
The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native is the third Longhorn to garner an SEC weekly honor in 2025, joining redshirt junior Luke Harrison (Feb. 17) and fellow freshman Adrian Rodriguez (Feb. 17).
