Booker is one of four finalists for the WBCA Player of the Year award.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas women's basketball sophomore Madison Booker has been selected one of four finalists for the 2025 Wade Trophy, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today. The prestigious award is presented by the WBCA each year to the best player in college women's basketball. Booker and Rori Harmon were selected regional finalists for Coaches' All-America.
This season Booker has been named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press and the SEC Player of the Year. In 2024 Booker earned Big 12 Player of the Year as a freshman and was a WBCA First Team All-American. Booker earned the 2024 Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award and is a finalist for that award this season.
Booker has scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season and has scored in double figures in 29 games. Her rebounding has improved as she has the most double figure rebounding games of anyone on the Texas team with eight this season.
As an incredibly efficient player, Booker is shooting 46.7 percent from the field on the season, 42.4 percent from 3-point range and 83.7 percent from the free-throw line. In the Longhorns last eight games against ranked opponents, including five wins against top-10 teams, Booker is averaging 20.5 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free-throw line.
Booker helped Texas earn the SEC regular season championship and advance to the Sweet 16. In the Longhorns two NCAA tournament games this season, Booker is averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game while shooting 58.6 percent from the field.
Harmon is a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award. This season Harmon became the first player in Texas program history to reach 1,200 points and 600 assists. Harmon currently ranks second on the Longhorns all-time list for career assists with 718.
The Wade Trophy — now in its 48th year — is the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball. It is named in honor of the late, legendary Delta State University head coach Lily Margaret Wade, who won three consecutive national championships with the Lady Statesmen. First awarded in 1978 by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), now known as SHAPE America, the Wade Trophy has been presented to the WBCA NCAA Division I National Player of the Year since 2001.
