Track and Field's Jess crowned Texas Relays 5000m champion

Three Longhorns climb school's all-time performer list.
AUSTIN, Texas – Eva Jess of the Texas women' track and field program was crowned the 5,000-meter Texas Relays champion and climbed the UT All-Time Performer List on the second night of the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist.
Jess took home her first-ever Texas Relays title on Thursday night running the 5K in 15:57.92. The time moved her up to No. 6 on the all-time performer list and took off seven seconds from her previous best. Freshman Sydni Wilkins was eighth with a time of 16:35.08.
In the men's 5K, Isaac Alonzo was fourth with a time of 13:57.98. Rodger Rivera (14:20.61) and Nigusom Knight (14:20.81) closed out the top-10 finishers.
Freshman Meagan Humphries closed out her first collegiate heptathlon finishing fourth with 5,199 points. After ending day one in sixth with 3,206 points, Humphries climbed two spots after recording a jump of 5.69m (18-8) in the long jump. Later, she added a throw of 29.34m (96-3) in javelin before running the 800-meter in 2:23.74.
Her scores moved her to No. 6 on the UT All-Time Performer List. Humphries sits behind Longhorn Legend Ashtin Zamzow (6,222), Kristine Blazevica (6,146), Natalie Lew (5,576), Shanay Briscoe (5,325) and Monica Hays (5,309).
On the track, junior Kody Blackwood led the field of 45 in the 400-meter hurdle prelims with the fastest qualifying time at 50.23. Junior Chris Brinkley Jr. finished fourth overall with a time of 51.46 to earn a spot in Friday's final and Damon Frabotta was 16th in 52.36. The women saw freshman Mackenzie Collins qualify for the final with her time of 58.31 in her first ever 400m hurdle event.
Three Longhorns ran the 800-meter women's invitational and were led by Amity Ebarb who finished ninth in 2:07.93. Grace Kowalski (2:12.88) and Gia Kurp (2:13.60) closed out the competitors.
The men later saw Nathanael Berhane finish the 1500-meter A race in 3:49.33 to finish seventh and Jackson Braddock finish 10th in 3:56.54.
Freshman Brandon Schirck moved to No. 9 on the UT All-Time performer list in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 55.38m (181-8).
Graduate transfer Cooper Tyler threw for 48.68m (159-8) in the men's B javelin. Connor Boenig later cleared 5.00m (16-4.75) after two attempts for the first time this season to finish fifth, while Sam Abati cleared the same bar on his third attempt to finish sixth.
