No. 7 Baseball clinches series at Missouri behind Gasparino’s multi-homer effort

Longhorns score five unanswered runs to top Tigers, 7-4
COLUMBIA, Mo. — For the second straight game, sophomore Will Gasparino registered a multi-homer performance, leading No. 7 Texas to a series-securing 7-4 win over Missouri on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.
Gasparino smacked a pair of solo shots and plated the Longhorns' final three tallies, highlighted by a go-ahead blast to propel Texas (22-3, 8-1 SEC) to victory in the front leg of the doubleheader.
His 419-foot jack in the eighth marked his fifth homer in a 10 at-bat span, dating back to the Longhorns' midweek contest against Sam Houston on Tuesday.
Gasparino's encore performance came less than 24 hours after becoming just the third Texas player with eight RBI in a game since 2008 on Friday.
In the victory, shortstop Jalin Flores also left the yard for the fourth time in the last five contests. Flores' towering tank to left leveled the score, 4-4.
Missouri (9-16, 0-8 SEC) took a brief two-run lead, capitalizing on couple of Texas miscues in the second.
The Tigers totaled four unearned tallies, capped off by third baseman Chris Patterson's three-run jack.
The Longhorns' pitching staff kept Missouri quiet the rest of the way, holding the Tigers scoreless over the final seven innings.
Junior right-hander Max Grubbs (3-0) earned the win in relief, tossing three shutdown frames. Grubbs registered five punchouts, striking out the side in his first inning of work to strand a couple of runners in scoring position.
Freshman southpaw Dylan Volantis (6) retired six of the final seven batters, including four strikeouts to lock down the victory.
Texas will look to complete the sweep Saturday evening. The series finale is slated for 6:10 p.m.
