Booker scores 19 points in Texas’ first game of the 2025 SEC Tournament.
Greenville, S.C. — Texas overcame a late fourth period surge from Ole Miss to secure their first win in the 2025 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament with a 70-63 win on Friday.
Madison Booker led four players who scored in double figures for Texas with 19 points. Kyla Oldacre tallied 12 points, Shay Holle added 11 points and Taylor Jones contributed 10 points. Rori Harmon dished out nine assists for Texas.
Texas started the game by blocking an Ole Miss layup that was followed by Madison Booker sinking a wide open 3-point shot. Texas went on an 8-0 run then finished the period making five of their last seven field goals leading Ole Miss 23-17.
To open the second period, Booker hit a layup to put Texas up 25-17. Harmon finished the half by sinking a 3-point shot with six assists to put Texas up 40-33. Six Texas players scored with guard Shay Holle and post-player Kyla Oldacre combining for 12 points and Madison Booker leading the team with 11 points. The Longhorns defense was also on display forcing 10 turnovers and adding four blocked shots.
Booker scored the first bucket of the second half with a jumper to keep Texas up 42-33. At the 2:45 mark of the third period Texas had its largest lead of the night after a layup from post-player Taylor Jones putting the team up 51-38. Texas had their 23rd quarter holding a team to single-digit points with Ole Miss going 0-13 on a 8:18 scoring drought to finish the third period.
During the final period, Ole Miss came back to make the game 63-60, Holle hit a corner three to extend Texas a six-point lead. Bryanna Preston sealed the game winning free throws after being intentionally fouled leading Texas to defeat Ole Miss 70-63.
Up next, the Longhorns play in the semi-finals on Saturday, March 8 at 6:00 PM CT. This game will be televised on ESPN 2.
