Longhorns continue best start to season in 21 years
AUSTIN, Texas — No. 1 Texas scored in four of the first five innings and never looked back, cruising to an 11-4 win over UTRGV in front of 7,163 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (30-5) notched 11 unanswered runs to open Tuesday night's tilt, as four different players mounted multi-RBI performances.
Center fielder Will Gasparino plated four tallies for the third different time this season, highlighted by a two-RBI single as part of a four-run second.
Catcher Rylan Galvan reached safely in all four of his plate appearances, driving in three runs.
Meanwhile, infielder Jalin Flores and Casey Borba both totaled a pair of RBI in Texas' seventh victory in its last eight games.
On the mound, Kade Bing (2-0) tossed five innings of one-run baseball, holding the Vaqueros (25-11) to five hits. Bing record four strikeouts and didn't issue a free pass in his seventh start of the year.
The Longhorns bullpen picked up right where Bing left off, allowing zero earned runs over the final four frames. As a pitching staff, Texas did not allow a walk and struck out 10 batters.
UTRGV used eight different arms to navigate the Longhorns' lineup. Starting pitcher Jacob Limas (1-2) was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs in the first.
Texas continues its four-game homestand, as the Longhorns welcome No. 8 Auburn to UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The top-10 SEC showdown starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
