Williams propels No. 1 Baseball to 8-3 win over No. 8 Auburn

Freshman becomes first Longhorn with three RBI in first career start since 2018
AUSTIN, Texas — In his first career start, left fielder Jonah Williams drove in three runs to guide No. 1 Texas to an 8-3 victory over No. 8 Auburn on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Williams' breakout performance helped the Longhorns (32-5, 15-2 SEC) secure their eighth ranked win of the season and 14th consecutive series victory, dating back to last year.
The freshman became the first Longhorn with three RBI in their first career start since Zach Zubia accomplished the feat on Feb. 25, 2018.
In the fourth inning, Williams notched his first career hit, delivering a run-scoring single on a 1-2 pitch.
Two frames later, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound standout recorded a two-RBI base hit on a 2-2 fastball.
Williams' multi-hit effort contributed to Texas' eight two-strike knocks on the evening.
Batting in the eight-spot, Williams and the other four hitters in the bottom part of the Longhorns' lineup combined to finish 9-for-19 with six RBI.
First baseman Kimble Schuessler posted a co-season-best three hits and plated a run in the seventh, while right fielder Tommy Farmer IV added a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Second baseman Jayden Duplantier registered an extra-base hit of his own to jumpstart the scoring in the third.
Left-hander Luke Harrison (3-0) earned the win, surrendering two runs on four hits. The southpaw navigated through early traffic, stranding five base runners across the first four innings.
Harrison ended his outing with six strikeouts, as Texas is now 10-0 when he draws the starting nod.
Relievers Ethan Walker, Thomas Burns and Dylan Volantis teamed up to hold the Tigers (27-12, 9-8 SEC) to one tally on two hits the rest of the way.
The Longhorns will look to complete their sixth sweep of the year, as the two sides wrap up the three-game at noon on Saturday.
