First baseman earns first career weekly league distinction
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns standout Kimble Schuessler garnered Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Schuessler totaled an SEC-leading .714/.765/1.500 slash line, three home runs and 10 RBI to lead the Longhorns to a perfect 4-0 week.
The first baseman reached safely in 13 of his 17 plate appearances by mounting four multi-hit efforts, highlighted by a two-homer, eight-RBI performance to lead Texas to a 14-2 run-rule win over No. 8 Auburn.
In the series finale, Schuessler sandwiched a two-RBI double with a pair of three-run shots, including the game-ending blast in the seventh inning.
The graduate student became just the fifth Longhorn with eight RBI in a game since 2008, joining Brandon Belt (2008), Porter Brown (2023), Eric Kennedy (2023) and Will Gasparino (2025).
Less than 24 hours earlier, Schuessler matched a season-best three hits and scored the eventual decisive run in Texas' 8-3 victory over the Tigers.
Schuessler sparked the Longhorns' sixth sweep of the year, launching the go-ahead jack in the seventh in a narrow 3-2 win Thursday evening.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound slugger kicked off his week in style, reaching safely in all five of his plate appearances against UTRGV on Tuesday.
Schuessler is one of six Texas players to have collected SEC weekly accolades in 2025, alongside Gasparino (March 31), Luke Harrison (Feb. 17), Ruger Riojas (March 31), Adrian Rodriguez (Feb. 17) and Dylan Volantis (March 24 & April 7).
