Longhorns finish regular-season home slate with 26-5 mark

AUSTIN, Texas — No. 1 Texas brought the tying tally to the plate in each of the final two innings, but fell short to Florida, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (40-10, 20-7 SEC) loaded the bases in the eighth to push across a run before putting runners on first and second with one out in the ninth.

After seven shutout innings from Florida starter Aidan King, closer Jake Clemente recorded the final six outs to seal the win for the Gators (35-18, 13-14 SEC).

King (5-2) scattered two hits and struck out a career-best nine in a 110-pitch effort.

Texas righty Jason Flores (4-2) was charged with the loss. Flores yielded a pair of tallies on as many hits in his fifth career start.

In the defeat, the Longhorns' bullpen limited the visitors to one earned run across the final 6 2/3 innings.

Right-hander Max Grubbs pitched 4 2/3 frames in relief of Flores, while righties Andre Duplantier II and Thomas Burns both registered a scoreless inning.

Florida scored twice over the first three frames before tacking on insurance tallies in the seventh and eighth, respectively.

Prior to Sunday's contest, the Longhorns honored Duplantier II, Luke Harrison, Cody Howard, Kimble Schuessler, Will Mercer, Jared Spencer and Ace Whitehead, as well as student-assistant coach Michael Cantu and student-managers CJ Jimenez, Michael Pazak and Harry Wilonsky with a special Senior Day ceremony.

Texas concludes its regular season slate at Oklahoma, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
