Longhorns win first Red River rivalry series in SEC play
NORMAN, Okla. — Left-hander Luke Harrison tossed six strong innings and the third-ranked Longhorns exploded for eight runs over the final three frames to notch a series-securing 9-1 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Harrison (5-1) faced just three batters over the minimum and struck out five, as Texas (42-11, 22-8 SEC) capped off its best regular season since 2010.
The redshirt junior's standout performance helped the Longhorns record their SEC-leading eighth series win in league play.
With Harrison holding the Sooners (33-19, 14-16 SEC) to only one run on two hits, Texas' offense came to life in the seventh.
The Longhorns pushed across three tallies before play was halted due to inclement weather.
After the two-hour delay, third baseman Casey Borba blasted a two-run shot to balloon the advantage to 6-1.
In the ninth, first baseman Kimble Schuessler smacked a three-run homer to punctuate the offensive outburst.
Hard-throwing righty Thomas Burns (4) retired the final nine hitters in a row, punching out a season-high six to lock down the victory.
Oklahoma starter Malachi Witherspoon (3-8) was tagged with the loss. Witherspoon pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on as many hits.
Texas — which became the first team to win the SEC in its first season since the league's inaugural campaign in 1933 — earned the No. 1 seed in the 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament.
The Longhorns will open postseason play at 3 p.m. Thursday. Texas will face eighth-seeded Tennessee, ninth-seeded Alabama or 16th-seeded Missouri in its first-ever contest at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
