Former Longhorn claims his third career major title and first PGA Championship with five-stroke victory.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler carded an even-par 71 on Sunday afternoon to post a five-stroke victory at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club. Scheffler recorded his third career major title, as he previously claimed wins at The Masters in 2022 and 2024.
Former University of Texas men's golfers have now recorded a total of 11 Major championship victories, including a pair of PGA Championships. Scheffler is the second former Longhorn to win the PGA Championship, as Mark Brooks previously accomplished the feat in 1996.
Scheffler is one of six former Longhorns to win a Major championship. He is joined in that prestigious group by Ben Crenshaw (1984 and 1995 the Masters), Tom Kite (1992 U.S. Open), Mark Brooks (1996 PGA Championship), Justin Leonard (1997 the Open) and Jordan Spieth (2015 the Masters, 2015 U.S. Open and 2017 the Open).
This marked the 15th career PGA TOUR victory for the 28-year-old Scheffler. Since World War II, Scheffler is one of just three golfers who have won 15 times on the PGA TOUR and captured three Major titles before the age of 29, joining Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
Scheffler also joined Seve Ballesteros as the only golfers in the past 100 years to win each of their first three Major championships by at least three strokes. Scheffler won the 2022 Masters by three strokes over Rory McIlroy and the 2024 Masters by four strokes over Ludvig Aberg.
Scheffler's win marked the 108th official PGA TOUR victory for The University of Texas Men's Golf program accomplished by 17 different individuals.
