Longhorns draw season-high 16 walks in victory

AUSTIN, Texas — In its final midweek contest of the year, No. 1 Texas got back in the win column with a 9-3 victory over Lamar on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (39-8) drew a season-high 16 walks, headlined by third baseman Casey Borba.

Borba notched a free pass in each of his first four plate appearances before sparking a five-run eighth with his ninth homer of the season.

The sophomore's two-run shot vaulted Texas ahead, 6-3, after the Cardinals (37-15) pulled to within a tally.

Catcher Rylan Galvan followed with a two-RBI double to pad the hometown lead.

Meanwhile, shortstop Jalin Flores recorded his team-leading 50^th RBI to cap off the Longhorns' 14^th different five-run frame of the year.

Left-hander Ethan Walker (1-0) earned his first career Division I win. Walker tossed two hitless innings in relief.

Righty Hudson Hamilton (1) registered his first career save, pitching the final two frames.

Lamar starter Carter Sutton (5-3) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs across 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander issued six walks and struck out four.

With the victory, Texas finished with a 9-2 mark in midweek tilts.

The Longhorns will close out their regular season home slate, as Texas hosts Florida for a three-game set at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The series begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
