Longhorn batterymates garner second career All-America distinction
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns standouts Dylan Volantis and Rylan Galvan picked up All-America recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings, the organization announced on Friday.
Volantis was among the honorees slotted on the 21-player first team, while Galvan was one of two backstops on the third team.
A 6-foot-6, 212-pound left-handed pitcher, Volantis registered a 4-1 ledger with a 1.94 ERA and 12 saves, which is tied for 10th nationally.
The NCBWA Freshman Pitcher of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year totaled 74 strikeouts and issued just 12 walks across 51 innings.
Volantis — who was also tabbed an NCBWA All-American — set an SEC freshman saves record, tallying 11 saves in league play.
The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native led all SEC hurlers in ERA (1.59), WHIP (0.85), B/AVG (.160) and saves in conference action.
A 6-foot, 215-pound catcher, Galvan slashed .296/.452/.613 and paced the Longhorns in seven offensive categories, highlighted by his 1.065 OPS.
Galvan — who was also selected to the All-SEC First Team and named an NCBWA All-American — slugged a team-best 15 homers, which marked the most by a Texas backstop since Chris Abbe in 1992.
The junior is one of three finalists for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award.
