Men’s Golf’s Morrison named to 2025 USA Walker Cup Team

Rising senior Tommy Morrison selected to compete for 10-player squad on Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point Club.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas Men's Golf rising senior Tommy Morrison has been selected to the 2025 USA Walker Cup Team, the USGA announced Sunday night. Morrison will be joined on the 10-player squad by Jackson Koivun, Ben James, Michael La Sasso, Ethan Fang, Preston Stout, Stewart Hagestad, Mason Howell, Jacob Modleski and Jase Summy.
Morrison will become the 12th player in program history to compete for Team USA in the prestigious event. Previous Longhorns to play in the Walker Cup include: Ed White (1936), Tom Kite (1971), Justin Leonard (1993), Brad Elder (1997), David Gossett (1999), Jordan Spieth (2011), Beau Hossler (2015), Doug Ghim (2017), Scottie Scheffler (2017), Cole Hammer (2019 and 2021) and Pierceson Coody (2021).
The USA Team will compete against Great Britain and Ireland in the 50th Walker Cup Match on Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. The Match is played over two days with 18 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate-shot) matches. Cypress Point Club previously served as the host site for the 1981 Walker Cup, when the USA earned a 15-9 victory over Great Britain and Ireland.
This summer, Morrison earned the No. 2 seed and advanced to the Round of 64 at the 2025 U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. He also registered top-20 individual finishes at the European Amateur and The Amateur Championship at Royal St. George's in addition to reaching the Sweet 16 at the 2025 Western Amateur.
During his junior year in 2024-25, Morrison was one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award and was a second-team All-America selection by both PING/GCAA and Golfweek. A second-team All-SEC selection and a member of the 2025 SEC Community Service Team, he registered a 70.15 scoring average and placed in the top-25 in 11 of his 13 stroke-play appearances, including one victory, a runner-up finish and eight top-11 efforts. The SEC Men's Golfer of the Week (Feb. 12), 29 of his 40 rounds last year were par or better, including 17 rounds in the 60s.
Morrison claimed his first career collegiate individual victory at the 2025 Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 6-8), carding a 54-hole total of 21-under 195 (67-65-63) and winning the title on the first playoff hole. A native of Dallas, Texas, Morrison became the first American to win the European Amateur Championship in June 2024 and earned an exemption into the 2024 Open Championship, where he made the 36-hole cut and finished in a tie for 60th place.
