Austin – Former University of Texas Men's Tennis great Lloyd Glasspool reached men's doubles World No. 1 in the latest ATP Tour rankings released Monday.
Glasspool becomes the first Longhorn men's player to achieve a professional tennis World No. 1 ranking in singles or doubles. He is also the third to make it into the top three of doubles, along with Steve Denton, who climbed to No. 2 in 1983, and Kevin Curren, who peaked at No. 3 that same year. There have been two other top-five rankings in singles, including Wilmer Allison at No. 4. and Curren at No. 5.
Glasspool and current partner Julian Cash played together for the first time last September in Hangzhou and have won seven tournament titles since then, most notably capturing their first Grand Slam at Wimbledon in July. They won five other titles in 2025, including Brisbane, Doha, Queen's Club in London, Eastbourne, and Toronto, along with Tokyo in 2024. Glasspool now has a total of 11 career doubles titles.
Starting with Queen's Club, Glasspool and Cash collected 22 consecutive victories until barely falling in two tiebreakers in the semifinals in Cincinnati on Saturday.
A former 2015 NCAA Doubles Champion at Texas, Glasspool became the first Longhorn to win the Wimbledon men's doubles championship since Allison in 1931. It was the first Grand Slam title for a Longhorn since Denton and Curren combined to win the 1982 U.S. Open. Glasspool joined Denton, Curren and Allison as UT's Grand Slam winners in either singles or doubles.
