Track and Field earns three medals at three National Championships

Mariam Abdul-Rashid defends 100mH Canadian title.
EUGENE, Ore. – Texas Track and Field won three medals at three national championships on Sunday in hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships in September. World Athletics have set standards to qualify and will also rely on world rankings in order to compete at the championships this summer.
Two-time NCAA shot put champion and Texas outdoor shot put record holder Tripp Piperi finished with the bronze medal at the USA National Championships with a personal best throw of 22.29m (73-1.75). Piperi entered the meet with the World Championships Standard (WCS) and has qualified for Team USA for the first time at a major championship.
Back on the track, junior Kendrick Smallwood finished seventh in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.28. The time ranks as the seventh-fastest in UT history. It's the third addition to the Texas record book while at the USA National Championships after running 13.25 in the semis and 13.35 in the first round. Smallwood now owns the 11 fastest times in school history.
Aldrich Bailey and Kody Blackwood competed in the 400-meter hurdle men's final and finishes fifth (49.20) and ninth (50.02), respectively.
Valery Tobias was eighth in the women's 800-meter final with a time of 2:02.11. She also posted a personal best time of 1:59.30 in the semis during the competition.
Texas Ex Marcellus Moore was eighth in the men's 100-meter final with his time of 10.03. Kenondra Davis was 17th in the women's 200-meter semis with her time of 22.87.
Elena Bruckner took to the ring and finished eighth in the women's discus with a heave of 59.58m (195-6).
Mariam Abdul-Rashid also defended her Canadian 100-meter hurdles national title with her winning time of 12.84. Abdul-Rashid is still in the hunt of the World Athletics Championships standard of 12.73 to guarantee a spot at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
Incoming freshman Yann Spillman also claimed the 400-meter silver medal at the France National Championships after running a personal best time of 45.29.
