No. 2 Volleyball sweeps Vanderbilt in SEC opener

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 2 Texas Volleyball team opened SEC play with a sweep against Vanderbilt (25-13, 25-18, 25-21) to improve to 9-0 on the season. For the eighth time this year, the Longhorns outhit their opponent and were led by three players who hit over .560.
The last time the Longhorns swept four consecutive matches was Nov. 15-27, 2024, against Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Junior Torrey Stafford reached the 900 career kills milestone by posting14 kills while adding five digs. Sophomore Rella Binney recorded a career-high 36 assists and three digs in her first collegiate start.
The Longhorns handed the Commodores their third sweep of the season by holding Vanderbilt to a .153 hitting percentage, well below their season average of .218. Texas finished the night by hitting .446, its second highest of the season and its third straight match over .400.
Set One: The Longhorns dominated the opening set of their conference opener by hitting .565, holding the Commodores to only nine kills compared to Texas' 16. Texas took advantage of the three service errors by Vanderbilt and finished the set on a 7-1 run. Binney recorded 15 assists in the first set.
Set Two: The Longhorns were led by Stafford's seven kills and three digs to take a 2-0 advantage over Vanderbilt. The Commodores were held to a .118 hitting percentage, while Texas hit .440.
Set Three: In the closest set of the match, Texas sealed the win by holding the Commodores' offense to just nine kills and a .182 hitting percentage. Abby Vander Wal secured five of her 10 kills in the third to lead Texas to its first conference win.
Texas will host No. 21 Missouri on Friday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. CT for its eighth top-25 matchup of the season.
