No. 4 Men’s Tennis wins ITA Kickoff Austin Regional championship

The Longhorns swept South Florida, 4-0, to advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the eighth-straight year.
Austin – No. 4 Texas Men's Tennis won the championship of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Austin Regional with a 4-0 victory over South Florida at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday. With the win, the Longhorns advanced to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the eighth-straight year with this year's tournament taking place from February 13-17 in Dallas and Waco, Texas.
The Longhorns earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2, followed by singles wins from freshman Abel Forger at No. 3, senior No. 39 Sebastian Gorzny at No. 1, and freshman Kalin Ivanovski at No. 2 for the clinch.
In doubles, the Longhorns claimed the first match with a decisive 6-1 win from Gorzny and freshman Lucas Marionneau over Ettore Danesi and Max Mroz at No. 2. The Bulls answered at No. 3, as Stepan Mruzek and Timeo Gaillard pulled out a victory over junior Lucas Brown and sophomore Sebastian Eriksson. That left it to No.1, which was decided in a dramatic 7-6 (5) tiebreaker, where Ivanovski and Forger clinched the doubles point over Hugo Car and James Newton.
Forger was first off the court in singles play, notching a 6-3, 6-4 win over Agustin Cuellar at No. 3. Gorzny extended the lead with his 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 28 Car at No. 1 in which he never trailed by a game throughout either set. To close things out, Ivanovski clinched the match with his 7-5, 6-2 win over Elijah Cham on No. 2.
When the Longhorns clinched the win, Nos. 4 and 5 both had split sets, with No. 25 Eriksson even 4-6, 6-2, 1-1 in his matchup against Danesi, and senior Jonah Braswell trailing slightly to Mruzek, 3-6, 6-3, 0-1. Brown was working toward closing things out in his match against Gughi Verdese, leading 7-6, 4-2 at No. 6 when play stopped.
The Longhorns will next face Ohio State in Columbus, Oh. on Friday at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.

First Set: Forger collected consecutive deuce points for the only break of the set for 4-2 and followed with a hold for 5-2.
Second Set: Much like the first set, Forger gathered the only break for a 4-3 lead.

First Set: Gorzny broke first on a deuce point for a 3-1 lead, and although Car broke back, Gorzny later broke again for the set.
Second Set: Despite three deuce points, two of which were won by Car, the set stayed on serve until Gorzny broke in the last game for the match.
Singles No. 2: Ivanovski (TEX) def. Cham (USF) 7-5, 6-2
First Set: Cham held his first two serves at deuce until Ivanovski broke for 3-2. Cham got the break back for 5-5, but Gorzny broke again and served out the set.
Second Set: Ivanovski broke on a deuce point for a 3-2 lead to start a 4-0 run to the finish.

First Set: Four of the first five games came down to deuce points, with both players holding at deuce in the first two games starting with Eriksson before three-straight breaks that left Danesi up a break. The rest of the set stayed on serve to Danesi's win.
Second Set: Eriksson opened with a 3-0 run, including a deuce-point break. He then gave up two games before going on another 3-0 run for the set, capped by a deuce-point break.
Third Set: Danesi won the opening game with a deuce-point break, and Eriksson broke back before play stopped.
