No. 1 Men’s Swimming and Diving dominates Texas A&M, 230-70

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving had Longhorns place first in 15 of 16 events to claim a 230-70 victory over Texas A&M on Friday afternoon.
Additionally, Texas claimed top-three finishes in seven events, highlighted by Rex Maurer breaking a 25-year-old Texas A&M Natatorium 1,000-yard freestyle pool record with a time of 8:37.19. The previous record of 8:44.11 was set in 2001 by Chris Thompson of the University of Michigan.
Texas opened the meet with a top-two finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the A group of Will Modglin, Nate Germonprez, Garrett Gould and Rafael Fente-Damers won in 1:23.09. The B group of Kyle Peck, Campbell McKean and Ksawery Masiuk finished second in 1:25.86, combining for 14 total points.
The Longhorns posted top-three finishes in seven events, beginning with the 1,000-yard freestyle, led by Rex Maurer's record-breaking swim of 8:37.19. Alec Enyeart followed in second at 8:54.03, while Aiden Hammer placed third in 8:58.46. In the 200-yard freestyle, Rafael Fente-Damers took first in 1:33.66, Camden Taylor finished second in 1:34.18 and Evan Bailey claimed third in 1:34.21. The 100-yard butterfly was won Hubert Kos in 45.82, with Masiuk taking second in 45.96 and Ryan Brannon rounding out the podium in third at 47.13.
Will Modglin touched first in the 100-yard backstroke at 46.10, followed by Kos in second at 46.12 and Kyle Peck in third at 46.17. Nate Germonprez claimed the 100-yard breaststroke in 50.92, with Campbell McKean taking second in 52.55 and Will Scholtz finishing third in 53.05. Kos earned another victory in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:39.91, while Peck placed second in 1:41.11 and Modglin finished third in 1:42.96. The 500-yard freestyle closed the stretch with Cooper Lucas winning in 4:17.99, followed by Hammer in second at 4:19.46 and Enyeart in third at 4:20.74.
The Longhorns placed three swimmers in the top four of the 200-yard butterfly, led by Brannon's winning time of 1:42.27. Cooper Lucas followed in second at 1:42.35, while Alexey Glivinskiy finished fourth in 1:45.23.
Garrett Gould and Calvin Fry claimed the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle, with Gould winning in 19.35 and Fry finishing second in 19.48. Rafael Fente-Damers later touched first in the 100-yard freestyle at 43.10, while Gould added a runner-up finish in 43.23.
Germonprez earned his second victory of the afternoon in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:52.47, while Scholtz claimed second in 1:54.68.
The 200-yard individual medley saw three Longhorns place in the top four, led by Maurer's first-place finish in 1:42.97. Taylor followed in third at 1:45.42, while Glivinskiy rounded out the top four in fourth at 1:47.12.
The longhorns capped off swimming with a top-two finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with group A (Gould, Kos, Peck and Fente Damers) touching the wall first in 2:49.72. Group B (Masiuk, Fry, Bailey and Germonprez) placed second in 2:51. 65.
The diving portion of the meet saw Nick Harris claim two top finishes, winning the three-meter with a score of 405.23 and placing second in the one-meter at 349.65, helping secure Texas' 230-70 victory over Texas A&M.
The Longhorns will face TCU and Incarnate Word on January 31 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at 11 a.m.
