Jillian Cox breaks her own 1,000-yard freestyle program record.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 2 Women's Swimming and Diving claimed 13 of 16 events, highlighted by Jillian Cox setting a new program record of 9:23.84 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, to earn a 207-92 victory over Texas A&M on Friday afternoon.
The Longhorns kicked off the meet with group A (Emma Kern, Campbell Stoll, Lillie Nesty and Eva Okaro) notching a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:35.84.
The relay was followed by Jillian Cox's first-place, record-breaking performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Cox previously set the program record in 2024 against LSU with a time of 9:24.83 and broke her own mark on Friday with a new time of 9:23.84. Kate Hurst placed second in 9:26.12, while Nikolett Padar finished third in 9:48.13.
The 200-yard freestyle saw three Longhorns sweep the podium, led by Inez Miller's first-place finish in 1:45.27. Okaro followed closely in 1:45.52, while Campbell Chase rounded out the top three in 1:46.24.
Texas continued to pile up points in the 100-yard backstroke, led by Kern's runner-up finish in 52.30, followed by Sarah Rodrigues in third at 52.92 and Berit Berglund in fifth at 53.57.
Piper Enge delivered a strong performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the event in 1:00.49, while Avery Collins added a fifth-place finish in 1:02.29. The 200-yard butterfly followed with Stoll and Angie Coe claiming the top two spots, as Stoll touched first in 1:54.02 and Coe finished second in 1:54.90.
The Longhorns swept the podium in three additional events, beginning with the 50-yard freestyle as Alexa Fulton claimed first, Lucy Mehraban touched second in 22.60 and Nesty finished third in 22.64. The 200-yard backstroke followed with Haley McDonald winning in 1:53.15, Rodrigues placing second in 1:54.48 and Nesty adding another third-place finish in 1:55.48. The final podium sweep came in the 500-yard freestyle, where Cox earned her second victory of the afternoon in 4:36.89, Hurst grabbed second in 4:39.00 and Erin Gemmell finished third in 4:45.49.
Texas earned points in the 100-yard freestyle, led by Fulton's second-place finish in 49.06, followed by Padar in third at 49.23 and Lucy Mehraban in fourth at 49.39. Additional points came in the 200-yard breaststroke, where Collins placed third and Chase finished fourth in 2:13.46.
The 100-yard butterfly saw Coe touch first in 52.29, followed by Okaro in second at 52.42. Stoll added another victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.26, while McDonald contributed a second-place finish in 1:58.84.
The Longhorns closed the swimming portion of the afternoon with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the A group of Nesty, Alexa Fulton, Eva Okaro and Brooke Adams won in 3:14.74. The B group of Lucy Mehraban, Nikolett Padar, Inez Miller and Angie Coe followed in second at 3:16.09.
Texas capped the afternoon with two diving victories, as Alejandra Estudillo won the one-meter with a score of 324.08 and Bayleigh Cranford claimed first in the three-meter at 344.03, helping seal the Longhorns' 207-92 win over Texas A&M.
The Longhorns will face TCU and Incarnate Word on January 31 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at 11 a.m.
