BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Texas junior Daniel Bennett has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks Bennett's second career weekly SEC award, as he previously earned SEC Freshman of the Week accolades on April 16, 2025.
Bennett claimed medalist honors on Tuesday at the St Andrews Links Collegiate stroke-play event (Oct. 12-13) at St Andrews Golf Club. He recorded a 36-hole total of even-par 140 (64-76) to win the individual title by three strokes. This marked his second individual victory of the fall season, as he shared co-medalist honors with teammate Matt Comegys at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup (Sept. 14-15).
Bennett helped Texas earn the top team finish by 19 strokes in the stroke-play portion of the tournament. During Tuesday's final round, Bennett battled through extreme weather conditions that included rain, temperatures dipping into the low 50s and winds gusting over 25 miles per hour. The average scoring round for the field on Tuesday was 79.13. In Monday's opening round, Bennett recorded six birdies and an eagle against a pair of bogeys en route to his 6-under 64.
In the championship match of the St Andrews Links Collegiate on Wednesday, Bennett posted a dominant 11-up win over Alex Timms to help the Longhorns earn a 4.5-1.5 victory over the University of St Andrews on the historic Old Course at St Andrews.
