No. 3 Softball preview: Ole Miss

Texas’ SEC home opener vs. Ole Miss is slated for 5:30 p.m. CT Friday, March 13, at McCombs Field.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Softball continues its home stand and hosts the Ole Miss Rebels for its SEC home opening series on March 13-15 at McCombs Field. Texas and Ole Miss open the series at 5:30 p.m. CT Friday, March 13, on SEC Network+ with Lincoln Rose (play-by-play) and Cat Osterman (analyst) on the call.
Game two between Texas and Ole Miss is set for Noon Saturday and Sunday's series finale is slated for Noon with Andrew Haynes on the call for both on SEC Network+. Throughout the series, fans can also listen to Andrew Haynes' radio broadcast on TexasLonghorns.com.
- Courtesy of Truist, Friday's first 1,000 fans at McCombs Field will receive a 2025 National Championship replica ring. Saturday will be Alumni Day for former Texas Softball student-athletes, and Sunday will be Mike White Day with the first 300 fans receiving a special Mike White T-Shirt.
- Texas is fresh off of the program's first Women's College World Series (WCWS) National Championship in 2025. The Longhorns finished the historic season with a program-record 56 victories and a 56-12 overall record.
- The Longhorns' 10-2 postseason run in 2025 culminated with a 2-1 Championship Series (third appearance in four years) win over Texas Tech. In the winner-takes-all game three, the Longhorns clinched a 10-4 victory.
- Head coach Mike White is in his eighth season at helm of the Texas program and holds a 339-94-2 (.782) overall record during his time on the Forty Acres. In 17 combined seasons between Oregon (nine seasons) and Texas (eight seasons), White sports a 775-205-4 (.790) overall record.
- Junior RHP Teagan Kavan received her second career SEC Pitcher of the Week honor on March 10. Kavan guided Texas to a road series sweep over No. 24 South Carolina to open league play on March 6-8 in Columbia, S.C. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native went 1-0 with a save in two appearances (one start) vs. the Gamecocks, recording a 0.88 ERA. Kavan surrendered just one earned run on six hits across 8.0 IP with seven strikeouts. Kavan did not give up an extra-base hit and held opponents to a .214 batting average.
- Texas is coming off a road sweep at No. 24 South Carolina on March 6-8 to open SEC play and a 10-1 (five innings) win vs. East Texas A&M Wednesday night at McCombs Field. Against South Carolina, Texas took the series opener 4-2 on March 6, won the second game 3-0 on March 7 and clinched the series sweep with a 5-2 victory on March 8's series finale.
- The Longhorns embark in their second season as Southeastern Conference members. In their first season as a league member, the Horns went 16-8 to finish third in the conference.
Series History
- Texas and Ole Miss will meet for the ninth time in history on Friday. Texas leads the all-time series, 7-1.
- Last season, Texas defeated Ole Miss, 7-6, at the 2025 SEC Tournament in Athens, Ga. This weekend will mark the first SEC series between the two teams.
- Texas is 4-0 vs. Ole Miss at home in Austin.
- Texas and Ole Miss will play each other in Austin for the first time since the 2021 season. Texas won that game, 5-2, on Feb. 28, 2021.
- Texas' Associate Head Coach Ehren Earleywine spent the 2025 season as an assistant coach at Ole Miss.
