No. 5 Beach Volleyball earns two wins on first day of East Meets West Invitational

Longhorns improved to 8-3 against ranked opponents and 9-3 overall.
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – No. 5 Texas Beach Volleyball swept No. 13 Hawai'i and earned a 3-2 win over No. 9 LMU on Friday in the opening day of the East Meets West Invitational at Manhattan Beach Pier. Texas now has swept its opponent in four of the last six matches.
The Longhorns opened the day with a 5-0 win over No. 13 Hawai'i. Emma Grace Robertson and Lily Davis clinched the sweep for Texas with a 21-18, 21-17 victory on Court 3. Texas has now won both meetings against the Rainbow Wahine this season.
Texas later took a 3-2 win over No. 9 LMU. Chloe Charles and Eva Liisa Kuivonen earned a victory on Court 4, while Anna Pavelkova and Kacka Pavelkova added another on Court 2 to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead. The Lions responded with wins on Courts 5 and 3 to tie the match.
The deciding point came on Court 1, where Brecht Piersma and Katie Hashman battled to three sets before securing the clinching set, 15-13. With the win, the Longhorns improved to 4-2 against top-10 opponents this season.
Texas continues play at the East Meets West Invitational on Saturday, March 14, facing No. 1 UCLA at 12:00 p.m. CT/10:00 a.m. PT and No. 10 California at 2:30 p.m. CT/12:30 p.m. PT.
