Kavan struck out a season-high 13 batters against the Sooners.
AUSTIN, Texas – Despite a season-high 13-strikeout effort by junior RHP Teagan Kavan, No. 4 Texas Softball fell to No. 2 Oklahoma, 3-0, in Friday night's series opener.
Texas moves to 32-5 overall, 9-4 in conference play and 12-5 against ranked opponents.
Kavan recorded her 500th career strikeout, becoming just the sixth player in program history to accomplish that feat. She joins joining Cat Osterman (2,265), Blaire Luna (1,428), Meagan Denny (988), Christa Williams (678) and Tiarra Davis (508).
The West Des Moines, Iowa, native struck out a season-high 13 batters through 7.0 innings in the circle. Kavan surrendered three runs on six hits and worked around four walks. After giving up a two-run home run in the first, Kavan settled in and did not allow another OU run until the top of the sixth on a solo home run. It was Kavan's sixth double-digit strikeout outing of the season. Kavan's 13 punchouts tied Arizona State's Kenzie Brown for the most against the Sooner offense this season.
Junior center fielder Kayden Henry compiled her 13th multi-hit outing of the season after going 2-for-3 at the plate. Senior right fielder Ashton Maloney hammered her second triple of the season and the sixth of her career after bashing a leadoff triple in the bottom of the fifth. Senior catcher Reese Atwood, senior designated player Kaydee Bennett and junior shortstop Viviana Martinez each recorded hits.
