No. 3 Softball advances to seventh-straight NCAA Super Regional

Texas defeated Baylor, 7-0, behind four home runs and a Teagan Kavan gem.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Softball utilized a Teagan Kavan complete game shutout and four home runs to defeat Baylor, 7-0, in the NCAA Austion Regional Final Sunday afternoon at McCombs Field. Texas advances to the program's seventh-consecutive NCAA Super Regional.
The Horns enhance their overall record to 45-10 overall and 6-0 in the postseason. Texas moves its win streak to seven games and has won 13-consecutive NCAA Regional games. The Longhorns are 22-3 in NCAA Regional games under head coach Mike White. White has advanced to 16-consecutive NCAA Super Regionals as a head coach, which ties Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso for the longest streak by a head coach in NCAA history.
Junior RHP Teagan Kavan (24-4) went the distance, twirling a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native did not walk a batter. After surrendering an infield leadoff single in the bottom of the first, Kavan went on to retire the next 16 batters. Kavan held Baylor to just one infield single until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bears connected on a one-out double to left center. Kavan went on to induce a pop up and ground out to carry the Horns into the seventh. Kavan has recorded back-to-back shutouts and five complete game shutouts this season.
Texas brought the home run power to McCombs Field with the Longhorns combining for four long balls, energized by junior first baseman Katie Stewart's two-home run performance. In her fourth multi-home run game of the season, Stewart reached in all four plate appearances with two home runs and two walks, accounting for three RBI. Stewart has a program-record 27 home runs this season.
Junior center fielder Kayden Henry continued to shine offensively with her 3-for-5 outing that included a solo home run and two RBI. Senior catcher Reese Atwood cracked her 18th home run of the season on her solo shot in the sixth. Junior shortstop Viviana Martinez, freshman designated player Hannah Wells, freshman third baseman Jaycie Nichols, senior right fielder Ashton Maloney and sophomore pinch hitter Taylor Anderson added a base knock apiece.
The Longhorns did not waste any time scoring in the first as Stewart launched a towering two-run home run down the left field line to put Texas in front 2-0.
With two away and runners at second and third in the second, Henry smacked an RBI single that hit off the pitcher's glove to plate Nichols for the 3-0 lead.
Texas was held scoreless in the third and fourth but stretched its lead to 4-0 when a Baylor fielding error allowed Martinez to score from third.
Henry and Stewart demolished back-to-back one-out home runs in the sixth to increase the advantage to 6-0. Atwood followed with a two-out solo home run of her own to make it 7-0.
