No. 4 Men’s Golf in fourth after opening round at NCAA Bryan Regional

Potter fires a 5-under 67 on Monday and is tied for second in the individual standings.
BRYAN, Texas — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 7-under 281 on Monday to rest in fourth place after the opening round of the NCAA Bryan Regional at Traditions Club. Senior Luke Potter fired a bogey-free 5-under 67 and is tied for second in the individual standings after the opening 18 holes.
The NCAA Bryan Regional features 14 teams and five individual players. The top five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 29-June 3 at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Following Monday's opening round, the Longhorns hold a five-stroke cushion over the sixth-place team, Chattanooga, at 2-under 286. In addition to Potter's effort, Texas counted scores from senior Christiaan Maas (2-under 70), graduate Matt Comegys (even-par 72) and senior Tommy Morrison (even-par 72) in Monday's opening round.
Tournament host and No. 27 Texas A&M registered a 12-under 276 and holds a two-stroke lead in the team standings. No. 9 North Carolina is second at 10-under 278, while No. 34 TCU is third at 8-under 280. The Longhorns are fourth at 7-under 281, and No. 16 Tennessee is fifth at 6-under 282.
Texas A&M's Wheaton Ennis owns the individual lead after the first 18 holes, as he carded a 6-under 66 in the opening round. Potter is one stroke off the lead and tied for second with Carson Bertagnole of North Carolina at 5-under 67. Three players are tied for fourth at 4-under 68.
Due to forecasted weather issues on Wednesday, the NCAA Bryan Regional has adjusted its format for the remaining competition. Tuesday's action will be moved up 30 minutes to begin at 7 a.m. with split tee times, and the plan is to complete the final 36 holes of stroke play tomorrow. Texas will be paired with Tennessee and Chattanooga for Tuesday's second round, and tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. Central off the 10th tee.
The Lineup
- Senior Luke Potter carded a 5-under 67 on Monday and is tied for second in the individual standings. He posted a clean card in his opening round with five birdies (holes 4, 5, 10, 11 and 13) to go along with 13 pars.
- Senior Christiaan Maas fired a 2-under 70 in his opening round and is tied for 10th. Maas posted four birdies (holes 2, 4, 5 and 9) on Monday.
- Graduate Matt Comegys registered an even-par 72 on Monday and is tied for 24th. Comegys tallied three birdies (holes 5, 8 and 11) during his opening round.
- Senior Tommy Morrison recorded an even-par 72 in his opening round and is tied for 24th. Morrison posted three birdies (holes 4, 13 and 18) on Monday.
- Sophomore Daniel Bennett carded an even-par 72 on Monday and is tied for 24th. Bennett tallied five birdies (holes 5, 8, 11, 12 and 16) during his opening round.
