Catcher becomes second Longhorn to earn prestigious honor since award’s inception in 2007
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas catcher Carson Tinney has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I Gold Glove Team, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Tinney becomes just the second Longhorn to win a Gold Glove, joining second baseman Brooks Marlow in 2014.
Behind the plate, the junior registered a .992 fielding percentage. Tinney converted 600 putouts and added 43 assists, while making just five errors.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound standout anchored a Texas team that allowed the fewest stolen bases (28) among all SEC programs. As a club, the Longhorns posted a .979 fielding percentage, which sits 27th nationally.
As the main batterymate for the Longhorns' pitching staff, Tinney helped Texas post the second-best FIP (3.28) and fifth-lowest WHIP (1.21) in the country. The Longhorns also ranked 11th nationally in ERA (3.28).
