No. 12 Men's Golf's Hurd named SEC Freshman of the Week

Sterling Hurd earned co-medalist honors in his collegiate debut at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Texas freshman Sterling Hurd has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks Hurd's first career weekly SEC award.
Hurd earned co-medalist honors on Tuesday in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club. Making his collegiate debut and competing as an individual in the tournament, Hurd posted a 54-hole total of 10-under 206 (65-67-74) to share the individual title with Connor Henry of Middle Tennessee.
During Monday morning's opening round, Hurd carded a total of 10 birdies and registered a 7-under 65 in his first collegiate action. He tallied six birdies against a single bogey in his second round while posting a 5-under 67.
The No. 12 Longhorns are back in action as a team when they compete on Sept. 28-29 (Monday-Tuesday) at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational Presented by Charles Schwab at historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
