Comegys ties for sixth in the individual standings at 1-under overall.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 8 Texas Men's Golf team posted a final-round score of 11-over 291 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fifth place against an elite field in the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational Presented by Charles Schwab at historic Colonial Country Club. Fifth-year Matt Comegys fired an even-par 70 on Tuesday to tie for sixth in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 1-under 209 (70-69-70).
In Tuesday's final round, Texas counted scores from Comegys (even-par 70), junior Daniel Bennett (3-over 73), freshman Sterling Hurd (3-over 73) and sophomore Adam Villanueva (5-over 75) for a team score of 11-over 291.
No. 11 Alabama claimed the team title with a three-round score of even-par 840 (274-282-284), while No. 1 Auburn placed second at 5-over 845 (274-280-291). No. 5 Texas Tech (288-279-285) and No. 14 North Carolina (271-285-296) tied for third at 12-over 852. The Longhorns (280-283-291) and No. 10 Vanderbilt (279-279-296) tied for fifth at 14-over 854. The 16-team field included seven teams in the top 10 and 14 squads in the top 25 of the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Sept. 25).
Texas Tech's Adam Bresnu earned individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 7-under 203 (69-67-67). JD Culbreth of Georgia placed second at 6-under 204 (68-69-67). Comegys, who was one of just seven individuals in the 80-player field to finish under-par following the three rounds of competition, recorded his second top-six finish in his first three tournament appearances this fall.
The Longhorns are back in action on Oct. 12-14 (Monday-Wednesday) at the St Andrews Links Collegiate in St. Andrews, Scotland.

- Fifth-year Matt Comegys carded an even-par 70 on Tuesday to tie for sixth place in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of 1-under 209 (70-69-70). Comegys recorded four birdies (holes 1, 3, 10 and 18) during his final round. This marks his second top-six finish in three tournaments this fall, as Comegys shared co-medalist honors at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.
- Junior Daniel Bennett fired a 3-over 73 in his final round to tie for 22nd with a three-round score of 5-over 215 (73-69-73). Bennett tallied one birdie (hole 1) on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Adam Villanueva registered a 5-over 75 on Tuesday to tie for 26th with a 54-hole total of 6-over 216 (69-72-75). Villanueva posted four birdies (holes 1, 13, 14 and 16) during his final round.
- Freshman Sterling Hurd fired a 3-over 73 in his final round to tie for 26th with a three-round score of 6-over 216 (69-74-73). Hurd tallied one birdie (hole 1) on Tuesday.
- Freshman Brooks Harper recorded a 6-over 76 on Tuesday to tie for 53rd with a 54-hole total of 11-over 221 (72-73-76). Harper posted one birdie (hole 5) during his final round.
