No. 12 Men’s Golf climbs into tie for second at Folds of Honor Collegiate

Bennett fires a 5-under 66 and is tied for second in the individual standings at 6-under after 36 holes.
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The No. 12 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 12-under 272 on Tuesday to climb into a tie for second place after the second round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club. Junior Daniel Bennett fired a 5-under 66 on Tuesday to move into a tie for second place in the individual standings at 6-under overall after 36 holes.
In Tuesday's second round, Texas counted scores from Bennett (5-under 66), fifth-year Matt Comegys (3-under 68), sophomore Brooks Simmons (3-under 68) and senior Jack Gilbert (1-under 70). The Longhorns, who began the day in a tie for sixth, posted the low 18-hole team round on Tuesday at 12-under 272, five shots better than Notre Dame's 7-under 277 in the second round.
Georgia Tech holds a one-stroke lead in the team standings at 12-under 556 (272-284). Texas (285-272) and Notre Dame (280-277) are tied for second at 11-under 557, while Alabama is fourth at 5-under 563 (284-279).
Max Emberson of Georgia Tech holds the individual lead with a 36-hole score of 7-under 135 (63-72). Bennett (70-66) is part of a three-way tie for second at 6-under 136 along with Ohio State's Vaughn Harber (65-71) and Jacob Modleski of Notre Dame (68-68).
The Folds of Honor Collegiate concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Texas will be paired with Georgia Tech and Notre Dame in Wednesday's final round, and tee times will begin at 12:50 p.m. Central (1:50 p.m. Eastern) from the 1st tee. Golf Channel will provide live coverage of Wednesday's final round from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Central.
The Lineup
- Junior Daniel Bennett fired a 5-under 66 on Tuesday to climb nine spots into a three-way tie for second place in the individual standings at 6-under 136 (70-66). Starting on the 10th tee, Bennett tallied a clean card of five birdies (holes 10, 14, 18, 6 and 8) and 13 pars during his second round.
- Fifth-year Matt Comegys carded a 3-under 68 in his second round to move up 22 spots into a tie for 13th at 1-under 141 (73-68). Comegys registered four birdies (holes 12, 14, 3 and 4) against just one bogey on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Brooks Simmons recorded a 3-under 68 on Tuesday to climb 29 spots into a tie for 18th at even-par 142 (74-68). Simmons posted birdies on holes 11, 13 and 18 to make the turn at 3-under. He went bogey-double bogey on holes 1 and 2 to fall back to even par but rallied for three straight birdies on holes 4, 5 and 6 to finish at 3-under in his second round.
- Senior Jack Gilbert registered a 1-under 70 in his second round and is tied for 40th at 4-over 146 (76-70). Gilbert carded three birdies (holes 15, 7 and 9) against two bogeys on Tuesday.
- Junior Eduardo Derbez Torres fired an 8-over 79 on Tuesday and is tied for 46th at 5-over 147 (68-79).
